| The illegal poisoning of wildlife is one of the most serious threats to biodiversity in Europe. This cruel and indiscriminate practice has resulted in the decline of a number of species such as the Spanish imperial eagle and the black vulture and has even led to local extinctions. Furthermore it has had a detrimental effect on some of Europe's most successful conservation initiatives.
We, the undersigned, demand the European Commission to ensure that all member states effectively implement the existing legislation (Council Directives 79/409/EEC; 92/43/EEC; 82/461/EEC; 2009/128/EC and Regulation (EC)1107/2009) forbidding the use of poisons to control wildlife. Furthermore, we ask the European Parliament to officially recognise that stopping the use of poison is an essential prerequisite to safeguarding our biodiversity and to facilitate the successful recovery of our threatened fauna.
